The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards announced that Liz Miller, CFP®, CFA® has assumed her role of Chair of its Board of Directors, Investment News reported.

The board elected Miller at its July 2023 meeting to serve as 2024 Board Chair-elect, and on Jan.1, she began serving in her new Board Chair role for CFP Board of Standards and CFP Board Center for Financial Planning.

Miller now will lead the professional organization that certifies over 100,000 financial planning professionals across the United States.

“Leading CFP Board is truly an honor,” said Miller. “Last year, we surpassed 100,000 CFP® certificants, and we are moving forward from a position of strength in 2025. We are making strides to continue growing the financial planning workforce by supporting both the next generation and career changers. I also want to highlight this profession’s appeal to women. Having spent my entire career in this industry, I know how rewarding and flexible financial planning can be.”

One of the board’s objectives for this year is increasing the number of women in the field of financial planning.  Its strategy includes research, resource development, thought leadership and partnership development for women, culminating in the launch of a national initiative.  Recently, the CFP Board achieved a female majority in board membership for the first time in its history

“I also want to highlight this profession’s appeal to women,” Miller said. “Having spent my entire career in this industry, I know how rewarding and flexible financial planning can be.”

“Liz is a visionary leader with exceptional experience, passion and commitment,” said CFP Board CEO Kevin R. Keller, CAE. “Her leadership will help guide us through a rapidly evolving technological landscape, while her commitment to supporting CFP® certificants and promoting diversity will help build a more inclusive profession.”

Other areas of focus for Miller will be leading efforts to support CFP® certificants and keeping planners at the forefront of technological innovation. The CFP Board will collaborate with artificial intelligence (AI) experts in the financial planning industry to provide insights on AI use for CFP® professionals.

Miller joined the board as a director in 2020 and became a member of the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning’s campaign development committee.

Miller is the founder and president of Summit Place Financial Advisors in New Jersey, which provides personalized investment management and financial planning. Prior to starting Summit Place in 2008, she was a principal owner of investment management services firm Trevor Stewart Burton & Jacobsen Inc.
